Qwalímak/Upper Birkenhead Conservancy

British Columbia

Qwalímak/Upper Birkenhead Conservancy is located in the Lil’wat Nation Traditional Territory (Lil’wat Territory), approximately 60 kilometres north of Pemberton and Mount Currie. The conservancy is approximately 4,888 hectares in size and encompasses the uppermost reaches of the Birkenhead River watershed. From its origins in the conservancy, the Birkenhead River flows for approximately 60 kilometres through the Coast Mountains into the north end of Lillooet Lake. The main access to the conservancy is via the Birkenhead River Forest Service Road which is located off of the Pemberton-D’Arcy Portage Road, approximately 35 kilometres northeast from Pemberton. The northern portion of the conservancy can be accessed by travelling from the Hurley River Road, along the Hope Creek Forest Service Road, and then traversing in by foot from the road. The conservancy is adjacent to the western boundary of Birkenhead Lake Park.
