What the Wallet Is
The Wallet on the WorkCamp Marketplace is a prepaid balance attached to your member account. It's how the marketplace handles any paid features — things like promoted listings, featured placement upgrades, and any seller fees that apply to certain categories or transaction types.
You don't have to use the Wallet. Posting a basic listing on the marketplace is free for all WorkCampConnect members, both Base Camp and Full Hookup. The Wallet only comes into play when you choose to upgrade a listing or use a paid feature.
How the Wallet Works
The Wallet is a simple prepaid system:
- You add funds to your Wallet (top up) using a credit or debit card.
- Your balance sits in the Wallet until you use it.
- When you buy a paid feature — like promoting a listing — the cost is deducted from your Wallet balance.
- You can see every top-up and every deduction in your transaction history.
The reason the marketplace uses a prepaid Wallet instead of charging your card every time is that it's faster, cheaper for everyone (one transaction instead of many), and easier to keep track of.
Topping Up Your Wallet
- Sign in to the marketplace at marketplace.workcampconnect.com.
- Click your profile menu in the top-right corner and select Wallet.
- Click Add Funds.
- Choose a top-up amount, or enter a custom amount.
- Enter your card details. The marketplace processes payments through a secure payment processor — your card details are never stored on WorkCampConnect servers.
- Confirm the charge. Your Wallet balance updates immediately and you'll receive an email receipt.
How Much to Top Up
Most members start with a small top-up — enough to try one or two paid features and see how they work. There's no minimum balance you have to maintain, and there's no expiration on Wallet funds — your balance stays available until you spend it.
What the Wallet Pays For
Promoted Listings
You can promote any of your listings to give it extra visibility. Promoted listings appear higher in search results, on the marketplace home page, and in the relevant category pages. Promotion is sold in time blocks (typically a few days at a time) and the cost depends on how long you want the promotion to run.
Promoting works best for:
- Higher-value items where extra exposure makes a real difference
- Seasonal items you want to sell before a deadline
- Listings that have been up a while without much interest
Featured Placement
Featured placement puts your listing in the rotating spotlight on the marketplace home page. It's the most visible spot on the site and works well for unique or high-demand items.
Seller Fees (Where Applicable)
Most listings have no seller fee. Certain categories or higher-value transactions may carry a small seller fee deducted from your Wallet when the listing is posted or when a deal is marked as completed. Any fees are shown clearly before you confirm — you'll never be charged something you didn't agree to.
Your Transaction History
Every Wallet transaction is recorded so you can see exactly where your money went:
- Go to your Wallet page from the profile menu.
- Scroll down to the Transaction History section.
- You'll see every top-up (credit) and every spend (debit) with a date, description, and amount.
If you ever notice something you don't recognize, contact [email protected] right away.
Refunds
The marketplace can refund Wallet balance in certain situations — for example, if a paid feature didn't work the way it was supposed to, or if a promoted listing had to be removed for reasons outside your control. Refund requests go through the same support email: [email protected]. Include your username, the date of the transaction, and what happened.
Payment Security
The WorkCamp Marketplace doesn't store your full credit card number on its servers. All card processing is handled by a PCI-compliant payment processor that handles billions of dollars in transactions a year. Your card data is tokenized so the marketplace only ever sees a reference, never the actual card number.
If you'd like to read the full details of how payment data is handled, the marketplace's Privacy Policy (linked from the marketplace footer) covers it in plain language.
Common Questions
Do Wallet funds expire?
No. Once you top up, the funds stay in your Wallet until you use them.
Can I withdraw Wallet funds back to my card?
The Wallet is intended for use on the marketplace, not as a stored-value account. Withdrawals back to your card aren't available through self-service — but if you have a special situation (like topping up by mistake), email support and we'll work something out.
What payment methods does the marketplace accept?
Major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover). Wire transfers, money orders, and cryptocurrency are not supported.
Can I pay another member directly through the Wallet?
No — the Wallet is for marketplace features only, not for buying items from other members. When you buy something from another member, the actual payment for the item happens between the two of you (cash on pickup, your preferred payment app, etc.). The Wallet doesn't handle person-to-person item payments.
Need Help?
If you have any question about your Wallet, a transaction you don't recognize, or trouble topping up, email [email protected]. Include your username and the details of what's going on.
