Your Privacy on the Member Map
We designed the Member Map with privacy as a priority. You have full control over what you share, how precisely your location is shown, and when your pin expires. Here’s everything you need to know.
How Precision Levels Protect You
When you place a pin on the map, you choose how accurately your location is displayed:
- City (Recommended) — Your pin appears somewhere within your general city area. Other members can see that you’re in a certain city, but not your specific address or campground. This is the best balance of community connection and privacy.
- State — Your pin is placed in a general area within your state. This gives the least specific location while still showing you’re in the region.
- Exact — Your pin appears at the precise coordinates you set. Only use this if you’re comfortable with others knowing your exact location, such as when you’re at a well-known public campground.
Visibility: Public vs. Private
Your visibility setting controls who can see your pin:
- Public — Any member who can view the map will see your pin.
- Private — Your pin is completely hidden from everyone except you. This is useful if you want to mark your location for your own reference without sharing it.
Automatic Expiration
Work campers move frequently, so stale pins aren’t helpful. Set an expiration period and your pin will automatically disappear when the time is up. This ensures the map stays current and your old locations aren’t left visible indefinitely.
Removing Your Pin Instantly
You can remove your pin at any time by going to the Member Map and clicking Remove Pin. It disappears immediately — no waiting period, no approval needed.
Safety Tips
- Use City precision unless you have a specific reason to share your exact location.
- Set an expiration so your pin doesn’t stay visible after you’ve moved on.
- Be cautious meeting up — if you connect with someone through the map and plan to meet, choose a public location and let someone know your plans.
- Review your pin periodically to make sure it still reflects where you want to be shown.
Your location data is stored securely and is only used to display your pin on the map. We do not sell or share your location data with third parties.
