Member Map — Frequently Asked Questions

Can Base Camp members use the map?

Base Camp members can browse the map and see where other members have placed their pins. However, placing your own pin, viewing pin details, and all interactive features require a Full Hookup membership. Learn how to upgrade.

Can other members see my exact location?

Only if you choose the Exact precision level. By default, we recommend using City precision, which shows your general city area without revealing your specific address or campground. You can also use State for even less specificity.

How do I remove my pin from the map?

Go to the Member Map from your dashboard and click Remove Pin. Your pin is removed immediately with no waiting period.

What happens when my pin expires?

When your pin reaches its expiration date, it is automatically removed from the map. You can always place a new pin whenever you arrive at a new location.

Does my pin automatically update as I travel?

No. The map does not track your location in real time. You manually set your pin location each time you want to update it. This gives you full control over when and where you appear on the map.

What does “Private” visibility mean?

Setting your visibility to Private means your pin is hidden from all other members. Only you can see it on the map. This is useful if you want to save your location for personal reference without sharing it with the community.

What are POI layers?

Points of Interest (POI) layers let you overlay useful locations on the map — like fuel stations, campgrounds, dump stations, rest areas, and Walmart locations. Toggle layers on and off using the layers panel on the map. Nearby results load automatically based on your current map view.

How does the route planner work?

The route planner lets you plan a driving route between two or more locations. Enter a start and end point, and the map draws your route with distance and estimated drive time. You can also add waypoints — click on the route line to add a stop, then drag it to reposition. The route automatically recalculates. POI locations within 5 miles of your route are highlighted so you can easily spot fuel, campgrounds, and other stops along the way.

How do I get directions to a location?

Click any member pin or POI marker, then click Get Directions. This opens turn-by-turn directions in Google Maps (or your default map app on mobile) from your current location.
