Job Board
How to apply for a job on WorkCampConnect
WorkCampConnect makes it easy to apply for jobs from direct employers without leaving the site. The in-platform apply form is a 5-step wizard that captures everything an employer needs, auto-saves your progress, and tracks the application's status all the way through to a hire decision.
## Who can apply
Both Base Camp (free) and Full Hookup (paid) members can use the in-platform apply form. No plan upgrade required. You just need to be logged in with a verified email.
You can apply on any WorkCampConnect direct-employer listing — look for the gold **Direct Employer** badge on a job card or listing page. Aggregator listings (Adzuna, USAJobs, Conservation Job Board, WorkampingJobs, KOA) still send you to the employer's external website to apply — that's outside the apply form.
## The 5-step apply wizard
Click **Apply Now** on any direct-employer listing to open the wizard at `/jobs/{job-slug}/apply/`.
### Step 1 — Cover Message
A short personal message to the employer. We pre-fill this with the cover message from your most recent application, so you don't start from scratch each time. Edit it to tailor your pitch to this particular listing.
### Step 2 — Relevant Experience
Highlight the specific experience, training, certifications, or skills that matter for THIS role. This is separate from your full Resume Builder content — think of it as a focused supplement.
### Step 3 — Availability & Contact
- **Earliest start date** — when you can begin work.
- **End date** (optional) — leave blank if your availability is open-ended.
- **Best phone number** — defaults to the number on your account. You can override it for this application without changing your profile.
### Step 4 — Resume & Screening Questions
You have three resume options:
1. **Use my WCC Resume Builder PDF** — generates a fresh PDF from your current Resume Builder content. The PDF has no WCC branding, so it looks like a normal professional resume.
2. **Upload a fresh PDF** — attach a different resume tailored to this employer or industry. PDF only, up to 10 MB.
3. **Apply without a resume** — only available if the employer didn't mark resume as required on this listing. Useful for entry-level seasonal positions where personality and availability matter more than a formal CV.
If the employer added **screening questions** (up to 5 short-answer questions like "Do you have your own RV?" or "Are you available weekends?"), they appear in this step and are required to submit.
### Step 5 — Review & Submit
Read-only summary of everything you entered. Each section has an Edit link to jump back. Once you click Submit, the application can't be edited — but you can withdraw and re-apply if you need to fix something.
## Drafts auto-save every step
You never lose your work. The moment you click Next, your in-progress application saves as a server-side draft tied to that specific listing.
- Close the tab, get logged out, switch devices — when you return to the same listing, the Apply Now button now reads **Continue Application →** and resumes you exactly where you left off.
- Drafts auto-delete 30 days after the last edit, or immediately when you submit.
## After you submit
Your application lands in the employer's portal inbox. You'll see a confirmation page that may also reveal the employer's phone and website if they kept those hidden until apply.
Every application is tracked in **My Applications** in your dashboard sidebar (look for the star icon). Click in to see the full status timeline, employer replies, and a copy of what you submitted.
## Status timeline
Your application moves through these statuses as the employer reviews it:
- **Submitted** — Your application is in the employer's inbox.
- **Reviewed** — The employer opened your application detail page. (Set automatically the first time they view it.)
- **Considering** — The employer is actively considering you for the role.
- **Hired** — You got the job! The employer will follow up with details about getting started.
- **Not Selected** — The employer chose other candidates this time.
- **Withdrawn** — You withdrew your application. The employer can no longer see it.
Every status change triggers four signals so you don't miss anything:
1. **Email** to your account address.
2. **Bell notification** on your top-right header.
3. **Dashboard activity feed** entry on your main dashboard.
4. **Sidebar badge** on the My Applications nav item.
When you visit `/dashboard/applications/`, the sidebar badge clears. Click into a specific application and only that application's events are marked read.
## Reading the employer's reply
If the employer replies to your application through WorkCampConnect, the message shows up on your application's detail page in a highlighted panel with the date stamp. You'll also get the email + bell + activity-feed signals.
The employer can also contact you directly using the phone number you provided in Step 3, especially if they want to move quickly toward an interview or offer.
## Withdrawing an application
If you change your mind, open the application detail page and click **Withdraw Application**. You'll get a confirmation prompt. After withdrawing:
- The application disappears from the employer's active inbox.
- The status changes to "Withdrawn" with a timestamp.
- You can re-apply to the same listing later if it's still open and you've reconsidered.
You CANNOT withdraw a Hired application — at that point, you're past the apply stage and it's between you and the employer directly.
## My Applications vs My Jobs
Two separate dashboard surfaces, often confused:
- **My Applications** (`/dashboard/applications/`) — applications you submitted through the in-platform apply form. Tracks live status from the employer. WCC direct-employer listings only.
- **My Jobs** (`/dashboard/jobs.php`) — your personal saved/favorited collection of any job, from any source. The "Applied" star is manual since aggregator listings can't be tracked automatically.
Use both: bookmark interesting jobs in My Jobs, apply through the form, then track the real applications in My Applications.
## Common questions
**Can I apply to my own job listing?**
No. The apply form blocks self-apply when the employer profile is owned by the same user.
**Can I see other people's applications?**
No. Applications are visible only to you and the specific employer you applied to.
**How long does an application stay in My Applications?**
Forever, as long as your account is active. Older applications never auto-delete.
**Can I edit my application after submitting?**
No — applications are read-only once submitted. If something is wrong, withdraw and re-apply.
**My status hasn't changed in two weeks. Should I do something?**
Some employers review in batches when hiring opens. There's no universal response time. The best move is to keep applying to other positions.
**Why isn't my external-URL application in My Applications?**
My Applications only tracks WCC in-platform applies. If you applied through an employer's external website, mark it with the "Applied" star on My Jobs instead.
**Does the employer see my username or forum posts when I apply?**
No. They see only what you submitted in the apply form (cover message, experience, availability, screening answers, phone, resume PDF) plus your first name and last initial.
**Where do I find My Applications?**
Dashboard sidebar → "My Applications" (star icon), located below My Jobs.
