Why Keep Pet Profiles on WorkCampConnect?
Work camping and full-time RVing with pets means being prepared. Vet visits in unfamiliar towns, trailhead emergencies, boarding requirements at new parks — all of them go faster when your pet's information is already in one place. WorkCampConnect lets you store a private profile for up to 5 pets in your account, so the details are ready when you need them.
Pet profiles are completely private. Only you can see them. They are never shared with other members, staff, employers, or any third party. They do not appear on your public profile, and they do not affect your profile completion percentage.
Adding a Pet Profile
- Go to Account Settings (click your name in the top navigation bar).
- Click the My Pets tab (the paw print icon).
- Click “+ Add Your First Pet” (or “+ Add a Pet” if you already have pets on file).
- Fill in your pet's details. Only the name is required — every other field is optional, so you can be as detailed or brief as you like.
- Click “Add Pet” to save.
What you can track for each pet
- Basic info — Name, species (dog, cat, or other), breed
- Physical details — Weight, color, and distinguishing markings
- Photo — Upload a photo up to 5 MB (JPEG, PNG, WebP, or GIF). Having a clear, recent photo stored ahead of time is one of the best things you can do — especially if you ever need to show a stranger or a vet “this is my pet.”
- Health info — Spay/neuter status, vaccination status, microchip number
- Personality — Temperament notes and any special needs (e.g. “friendly but shy around kids,” “needs daily medication,” “reactive to other dogs on leash”)
- GPS tracker — Brand and a shareable live-location link (details below)
GPS Tracker Share Links
If your pet wears a GPS tracker, you can store the share link right on their profile so it’s easy to pull up on the road. Many full-time RVers and boondockers use these for peace of mind when their dog gets curious about a new campsite. WorkCampConnect supports links from these popular brands:
- Tractive — Open the Tractive app → Tap your pet → Tap the Share icon → Enable “Public Sharing” → Copy the link.
- Fi Smart Collar — Open the Fi app → Tap your dog → Settings → Share Location → Copy the link.
- Apple AirTag — AirTags don’t support public share links. You can share location through Apple’s Family Sharing feature instead, or store the device’s serial number and identifying info in the profile notes.
- Halo Collar — Open the Halo app → Go to your dog’s profile → Look for a Share or Invite option.
- Garmin — Garmin hunting trackers typically use device-to-device radio tracking, so public share links are not available. Store the handheld device ID in the profile notes if that helps.
- Other — Check your tracker’s app for a “Share” or “Share Location” option and paste the link into the GPS Tracker field.
Editing or Removing a Pet Profile
From the My Pets tab, each pet card has buttons to edit or remove the profile. Editing opens the same form you used to add the pet — update any field and save. Removing a pet permanently deletes the profile and its photo from our servers; this cannot be undone, so make sure you have a backup photo elsewhere if you want to keep it.
Why Fill This Out Before You Need It?
The whole point of keeping a pet profile on WorkCampConnect is to have the information ready before a stressful moment. Some concrete examples:
- At a new vet: Pull up your pet’s microchip number, vaccination status, and weight from your phone in seconds.
- At a campground check-in: Some parks require proof of current vaccinations; having it on hand speeds up the paperwork.
- If your pet runs off at a rest stop: You have a recent photo, a clear description, and the microchip number all in one place — faster than searching through your camera roll.
- If you’re asked to describe your pet to an animal shelter or ranger station: You can read the details straight from the profile instead of trying to remember everything under pressure.
This is a preparedness feature, plain and simple. The five minutes you spend filling in a profile can save you hours later.
Privacy and Safety Notes
- Pet profiles are private to your account. They are not shown on the Member Map, community forum, your public profile, or anywhere else on WorkCampConnect.
- Pet photos are stored on our servers like any other image you upload, and they are deleted permanently when you remove the pet profile.
- If you choose to store a GPS tracker share link, anyone who clicks that link can see your tracker’s current location (depending on how the tracker is configured on the manufacturer’s side). We do not control what the tracker brand shows — check your tracker app’s sharing settings if you want to limit what’s visible.
- WorkCampConnect will never share your pet data with advertisers, vets, insurance companies, or any third party.
