Never Lose a Chat Reply Again
If you start a chat with our support team and step away — close your browser tab, lock your phone, or your laptop falls asleep — you don't need to come back to the website to see what we said. Once you go offline, the rest of the conversation switches to email automatically. When you reply to that email, your message threads right back into the same chat conversation. Nothing gets lost.
How It Works
- You start a chat from the chat widget on any page.
- Trail Guide AI tries to answer first. If it can't, it offers to connect you with a person.
- You go offline — close the tab, switch apps, lock your screen, or just walk away. The chat detects this within about a minute.
- The agent's next reply arrives by email instead of staying inside the chat window. The email comes from [email protected] and uses the email address tied to your conversation.
- You reply to the email from your normal inbox. We strip out quoted text, signatures, and the “On {date}, X wrote:” preamble automatically — only your actual reply gets threaded back in.
- Pick up where you left off. If you come back to the website while the conversation is still open, you can click the “Continue this conversation” link in any of those emails and the chat widget pops open right where the thread left off.
What If I'm Still Online?
If you're still actively using the chat (the widget is open and your device is awake), the agent's reply lands in the chat window the same as before. Email only kicks in when you've been gone for a while — so you don't get a flood of duplicate emails on top of live messages.
The Magic Resume Link
Every email we send you includes a one-click “Continue this conversation in chat” button. Tap it on your phone or click it on your desktop and you'll land back on WorkCampConnect with the chat widget already open and your conversation loaded — no logging in or remembering which page you were on. The link works for 30 days from the last reply.
Multiple Replies in a Row
If our team needs to send you several follow-up messages back-to-back, we batch them into one tidy email instead of pinging your inbox five times in five minutes. You'll get a single email that contains all the recent replies in order.
Closing Out a Conversation
When the conversation reaches a natural stopping point, the agent will close it on their end. You'll get one last email with a quick rating prompt — a single tap to let us know if we helped — and the conversation moves to your closed list. If something comes up later, just reply to that final email and it reopens the original thread, or start a fresh chat from the widget.
What If I Reply to an Old Email?
If you reply to a chat email more than a few weeks after the conversation closed, we open a brand new conversation rather than reviving an old one. This keeps the thread relevant and doesn't bury new questions inside stale history.
Privacy & Email Address
We only send chat-continuation emails to the email address you provided when starting the chat (or the address tied to your member account if you're signed in). If you didn't give us an email, the conversation simply ends when you go offline — we won't reach out cold.
Need Help With a Reply That Didn't Thread?
Email threading depends on your inbox preserving a few hidden technical details. If you forwarded the email or copied the text into a brand-new message, your reply may land as a new conversation instead of threading back. If that happens, we'll catch up by reading both threads — nothing is lost, it's just shown in two places. Open a support ticket if you ever feel a reply went missing.
