How Your Name Shows in the Forum
WorkCampConnect's community forum uses your @username as your primary identity — that's the handle you picked at signup. It never changes without your action, and it's what people tag when they mention you.
But because many WCC members sign up as couples or families, we also show a small household subtitle under the @username so folks know whose household is posting. This article explains what appears, why, and how to tune it.
What You See Depending on Account Type
- Solo accounts — @username only. No subtitle. (Your name still shows on your profile page, the member map, and in emails — just not as a forum subtitle.)
- Couple accounts — @username with a subtitle like "Mark & Barb S." underneath. Two first names + the primary account holder's last initial. Example: a post by
@the-seifertswould show "Mark & Barb S." below the handle. - Crew / Family accounts — @username with a subtitle like "The Smith Family Team". Uses the team name you set at signup (or your last name if you left that blank).
Where the Subtitle Appears
- On every forum post's user-info block (the left column with your avatar and @username)
- On your forum profile page (the header next to your avatar)
- On the member hover card that pops up when someone hovers over your @username in a thread
It does not appear in @mentions, notifications, or search results — those all use the @username directly, which is the forum's identity standard.
Last-Initial Only (No Full Last Names)
We intentionally use only the first letter of the primary adult's last name in household displays. A couple named Mark & Barbara Seifert shows as "Mark & Barb S." — never "Mark & Barbara Seifert". This is a platform-wide privacy convention: the forum, profile, map pin, and email greetings all follow the same "first name + last initial" rule.
How to Change What Appears
The subtitle is generated automatically from your Household settings:
- Edit your first name (or a partner's first name) from Dashboard → Account → My Household and the subtitle updates on your next forum visit.
- Add or remove an adult from the household — subtitle updates automatically.
- Convert between Solo / Couple / Crew tiers — subtitle updates automatically (or disappears entirely if you convert to Solo).
- Change your team name (Crew accounts) — subtitle updates automatically.
You don't need to post anything or refresh caches — the change syncs to the forum in the same action that saves it on WCC.
What If Something Looks Wrong?
If the subtitle is missing, outdated, or showing the wrong name, contact support. We can manually rebuild household displays across the platform if needed. In normal operation this shouldn't happen — every household change auto-syncs to the forum.
